5 January: Book Review: Appillionaires

Someone kindly gave me this book for Christmas as I usually enjoy stories about software development and technology.

This is a fun read about a topical subject.  How many software developers out there are working on some amazing app that they think will make them instant millionaires?  Go on.  Admit it.

This book has some interesting stories about the people behind some of the great games developed for the iPhone. It is not particularly positive about those working on Android or those of you with a Blackberry. 

One interesting message is that the major success stories are developed by a single person or a small tight team.  Chris suggests that the large conglomerate strategy of acquisition is doomed as the strategy for developing a killer app is totally at odds with the corporate approach.

Highly recommended.

1 January: Happy New Year

2012 is upon us already.  How quickly those block buster disaster movies get so out of date.  As December gets closer the Maya calendar will end up in the bin with the 2011.

An artist friend of mine is already planning the printing of his 2013 calendar.  Some advance planning is needed for these sort of things.

So Happy New Years wishes to all our readers.  Hope your plans for 2012 go well.  Lets make it a great year after the challenges of 2011.
